Road Planings – Cost-Effective Recycled Material for Tracks, Driveways and Hardstandings

Road planings, also known as road scalpings or tarmac planings, are an economical and environmentally friendly material ideal for creating durable, hard-wearing surfaces. Produced from recycled tarmac stripped during road resurfacing, this compactable material is perfect for building farm tracks, car parks, temporary access routes, driveways, pathways and commercial hardstandings.

Once laid and compacted, road planings lock together to form a stable, semi-bound surface that resists rutting and wear. This makes them an excellent low-cost alternative to traditional aggregates such as MOT Type 1 or crushed stone. Their natural bitumen content also helps repel water, improving durability in wet weather and reducing surface maintenance.

Supplied in bulk bags or loose loads, our road planings provide a practical and budget-friendly solution for both domestic and commercial projects where strength, reliability and value are essential.

Key Benefits:

  • Cost-effective alternative to traditional aggregates

  • Recycled and environmentally friendly construction material

  • Compacts into a firm, stable and long-lasting surface

  • Suitable for heavy traffic when installed correctly

  • Naturally binds together due to residual bitumen

  • Great for wet, muddy or high-use areas

Typical Uses:

  • Farm and access tracks

  • Driveways and private roads

  • Car parks and hardstandings

  • Commercial yards and storage areas

  • Temporary access routes and site entrances

  • Patching and repair work

Installation Tips:
For best results, spread road planings over a prepared, levelled base and compact thoroughly using a roller or plate compactor. Applying during warm, dry weather helps the material bind more effectively. For heavy traffic areas, consider laying over a well-compacted sub-base for maximum strength.

Why Choose Us?
We supply high-quality, clean recycled road planings that compact exceptionally well and deliver excellent value for money. Our reliable delivery service ensures you receive consistent, ready-to-use material ideal for a wide range of projects.
